NEW PCAL Case Studies

Two new active living case studies have been added to the PCAL website including the award winning Fairfield bicyle recycle program and the Junee shared walking and cycling pathway. Junee is the first of a series of non-Sydney metro case studies with a suite of additional regional case studies coming soon.

Workplace Travel Plan Toolkits

UK travel advocacy group Sustrans has released a new Workplace Travel Plan Toolkit. Bicycle NSW has also prepared a number of resources to support commuting by bicycle including a generic Workplace Travel Plan Kit available here.

Federal Funds

The Australian Government, as part of its economic stimulus package, has allocated $40million for funding of bicycle infrastructure. The deadline for submitting applications is 22nd May 2009, with project work required to be concluded by 30th June 2010.

Copenhagen Style Cycleway in the Harbour City

The first of City of Sydney's CBD Copenhagen style seperated cycle ways opened in May. King Street is the first of over 50km of seperated cycleway the city is planning to build over the next three years.

Naked Streets Gain Momentum

Bendigo Council is continuing its CBD 'Naked Streets' redevelopment where signage is removed and streets redeveloped to encourage walking and cycling. The Sydney Morning Herald also reports that the City of Sydney is proposing similar developments for the CBD.

Heart Foundation Local Government Awards

Any Council that has a plan, policy or program that focuses on creating a healthier community is eligible to apply for a Heart Foundation Local Government Award. Councils who work cooperatively with community groups, schools, health and/or private industry are also encouraged to apply. Applications close Friday 5th June.
