New NSW Workplace Travel Plan Resource

PCAL has prepared a NSW specific Workplace Travel Plan (WTP) resource. The resource provides a user friendly guide to essential background information, links to key existing national and international material and a fictitious best practice ‘Company PCAL’ WTP case study. The RTA also provides Free Green Travel Workshops.

Updated PCAL Active Living Case Studies

PCAL has updated its Sydney Metro active living case studies in a new user friendly format. The case studies demonstrate application of active living design principles within a range of environments. Updated case studies include; Cities, Towns and Neighbourhoods - Nelsons Ridge; Walking and Cycling Routes - Cooks River Pathway; Public Transport - Parramatta Road Bus Station; Streets - Chippendale Open Spaces - Warriewood Valley and Retail Areas - Rouse Hill Town Centre.

NSW Cycling Cost Benefit Studies

Background studies released with the new NSW BikePlan include a Cost Benefit Analysis of building key missing links within the Metro Sydney Bike Network. The demonstrated economic viability of the cycling projects was further reinforced by the results of a recent City of Sydney commissioned analysis on the benefits of an Inner Sydney Regional Bicycle Network.

NSW Coastline Cycleway Program

The latest round of funding as part of the NSW Coastline Cycleway Grants Program has been announced. Twelve cycleway projects will share in approximately $1.3 million of NSW Government funding. The NSW Coastline Cycleway program provides grants to non-metropolitan coastal councils to improve cycling facilities as part of the development of a cycleway along the entire NSW coast.

Melbourne's BikeShare Scheme Open for Business

Australia’s first major ‘bicycle share scheme’ was launched in Melbourne’s CBD in May 2010. The scheme currently consists of 50 stations and over 600 bikes and is intended to replace short trips which otherwise might be made by taxi, tram or bus.

Walking Most Popular Form of Physical Activity in NSW

 "The 2009 Exercise, Recreation and Sport Survey" reveals that participation in regular physical activity (three times a week or more) has continued to increase in NSW. Unstructured activities such as walking were found to be the most popular forms of movement in NSW.

Free PCAL 'Development and Active Living' Seminars

PCAL is hosting a series of FREE Development and Active Living Seminars for land-use planners and consultants. These half day events will build on previous PCAL Healthy Planning Workshops. Seminar dates and locations include: Wollongong 15.09.10; Parramatta 12.10.10; Sydney Central 20.10.10 and Newcastle 03.11.10.

Sport and Recreation Grants Programs Closing Soon

Applications for the Sport and Recreation Participation and Disability Sport Assistance Program grants close 6 July 2010. In addition, the NSW Government's Community Building Partnership program closes 23 July 2010.
